Waste Services, Inc. ("WSI") is committed to providing its customers with efficient, cost-effective waste management services. In the course of providing our services and products to our customers, we may collect personal information about you. This policy sets out the practices we follow in the collection, use and disclosure of the personal information which we may collect in the course of our business operations.
WSI encourages you to review the privacy statements of web sites you choose to link to from our web site, so that you can understand how those web sites collect, use and share your information. WSI is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on web sites outside of the WSI web site.
What is personal information?
Personal information is information that may be used to identify a specific individual. Information about a corporation and the name, title, business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization are not personal information.
What personal information does WSI collect and use?
In the course of providing our services and/or products to you, we may obtain financial, billing and other information about your waste service needs. WSI limits its collection, use and disclosure of the personal information it collects to the purposes that are identified in this policy. You may withdraw or limit your consent to our collection, use or disclosure of your personal information at any time on 30 days prior written notice to our Privacy Officer at the address noted below. The withdrawal of your consent may make it impossible for us to continue to provide you with our services and/or products. The terms of our service agreement govern what happens if this occurs before the end of your service agreement with us.
WSI collects and uses personal information for purposes reasonably required to carry on its business, including, for the following purposes:
- to determine your creditworthiness;
- to provide you with the services and products you have requested and to communicate with you in order to provide those services and/or products;
- to offer you additional services and products that may be of interest to you; and
- to monitor our level of service.
If we identify another use for your personal information after it is collected, we will seek your consent before we use your personal information for the new purpose. WSI does not collect personal information by electronic means in respect of individuals who access our website.
To whom does WSI disclose personal information?
WSI will disclose the personal information that it collects in the usual course of carrying on its business, including in the following situations:
- To an affiliated company;
- To a third party service provider where the third party has agreed to handle the information disclosed to it in compliance with applicable legislation;
- To a person whom WSI believes is acting as the individual’s agent;
- To a public authority or agent, to the extent required to comply with WSI’s legal or regulatory requirements;
- In connection with the sale or proposed sale of all or any part of our business;
- To a third party in connection with the collection of a delinquent account.
We may use or disclose your personal information without your consent when permitted or required by applicable law.
How does WSI safeguard your personal information?
The personal information that we collect from you is maintained in a secure manner appropriate to its sensitivity to protect it from loss, theft , unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification. In addition, we limit the collection, use and disclosure of personal information to that which WSI reasonably requires in order to carry on our business.
WSI will retain your personal information only for so long as is necessary for the fulfillment of the purposes for which it was collected, subject to legal requirements.
Use of "Cookies".
The WSI web site uses interactive features that use "cookies" to help you personalize your online experience. A "cookie" is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a web page server. "Cookies" cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. "Cookies" are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

How do you access or update your personal information?
If you wish to access the personal information which WSI maintains about you, please direct your inquiry to your local area service provider, who will respond to your request as soon as practical (generally within 30 days of the request being made). We reserve the right to impose a reasonable fee for complying with your request, depending upon the nature of your request and the amount of information involved. If we propose to charge you a fee, we will let you know the approximate cost and proceed when the payment has been received.
If you wish to update your personal information, please contact your local area service provider. We will respond to your request to update your personal information within a reasonable time (generally within 30 days of the request being made).
